The leaks and rumors about OnePlus’ next flagship have been increasing steadily as the launch nears. Press renders for the OnePlus 8 Pro had been leaked a few days back and now we have received renders of the OnePlus 8, thanks to collaboration with our friend Steve from @Onleaks, one of the most trusted leaker online.

The renders show that the OnePlus 8 will have a 6.55-inch 90Hz FHD+ Fluid AMOLED display. The “Fluid AMOLED” branding confirms that the company is continuing with the 90Hz refresh rate on this phone as well. This makes sense, since users reacted quite positively to the high refresh rate on the company’s 2019 flagship phones.

Further, the phone has a Snapdragon 865 chipset inside, which brings 5G connectivity to the device, and there are three cameras. The primary camera on the back gets a 48MP (F/1.8) sensor, supported by a 16MP ultra wide camera and a 2MP macro camera. The front camera stands at 16MP, and we don’t expect much change from older ones there.

On the memory front, the phone is expected to have 8GB/128GB and 12GB/256GB variants, but the SKUs will change from country to country. It should also have a 4300 mAh battery with OnePlus’ 30W fast charging technology Warp Charge.

What’s disappointing though is that OnePlus seems to be skipping waterproofing on the phone once again. There is no IP rating for the device, which is a real bummer now since the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro are expected to have flagship-range pricing. OnePlus dropped the “affordable flagship” image last year when it priced the OnePlus 7 series closer to the flagship range. The company currently competes with brands like Samsung, Huawei and Google at that price range.

The company seems to be pretty close to the launch right now, since the OnePlus Lab initiative began about two days ago. In this, OnePlus gives exclusive access to some select users, who get to review its next flagship phones. It’s possible that the company will have to push the launch though, given the worldwide lockdowns happening due to the novel Coronavirus outbreak.
