Stardew Valley: An Exploration of the Duggy World

| Updated:

What is a Duggy?

Stardew Valley players may encounter a monster known as a Duggy while exploring the Mines.

These creatures hide in sandy patches and will attack players who come too close. To avoid them, simply run over the sandy patch quickly and they will dig out and reveal themselves.

Duggies resemble small worms with antennas and will follow the player in the soil, popping up to attack.

Where to Find Duggies

Regular and dangerous Duggies can be found in the Mines, which become accessible after a few in-game days. The entrance can be found by going up Robin’s house and heading right and upward to a door in the mountain.

Duggies are typically located on the first 30 floors of the Mines, though they may not be present in all 120 levels.

This dungeon has 10 floors, which must be navigated in one go without the ability to skip using ladders. To exit, players must backtrack through all the floors they entered from. The magma Duggy can be found on all 10 floors, and the dungeon resets daily, with monsters respawning and all doors except for the 10th-floor shortcut closing.

Best Levels to Find Duggies

Duggies can typically be found in the first section of The Mines, within the first 30 levels. The optimal floor range for finding them is between 11 to 15. It’s important to keep an eye out for soft earth in the mines and to check near elevators between levels as well.

Duggies Farming

When it comes to farming Duggies, it’s best to find areas that have a high concentration of them so that you can kill a large number in a relatively short period of time.

The best floor ranges for farming Duggies are 5 to 15, with floor 15 being especially effective due to a large sand area right outside the door. You can use the elevator to reset the floor and kill as many as you need with 0 to 3 spawns.

Table 1 provides information on the best floor levels and areas for farming Duggies.

11Sand all over
12Go straight to the end of the Path – 1 Sand Patch and Tunnel a down
13Large Sand Area
143 Sand Patches (East, Southwest, Northwest)
15Sand all Over

Tip: Duggies seem to only appear when you step directly over or very near their spot. When farming, make sure to step over as much of the sand as possible.

Eradicating the Duggies – Monster Eradication Goal

The Adventurer’s Guild, under the guidance of Gil, has included the Duggies in their Monster Eradication Goal.

Upon completing all goals, a reward is granted, specific to the type of monster being eradicated.

For the Duggies, the reward is a Hard Hat – a purely cosmetic item with no functional purpose.

To complete the goal, 30 Duggies of any type – Duggy, dangerous Duggy, or magma Duggy – must be eliminated.

Defeating the Duggies

A safe tactic for defeating the Duggies is to position yourself at the edge of a dirt patch and lure them out. Once they surface, strike them with your sword until they’re defeated.

It’s important to note that Duggies cannot be killed with bombs like other monsters. They will pop back up, ready for battle.
