Is Pregnancy Possible in Stardew Valley?
While playing Stardew Valley, you may wonder if pregnancy is a feature in the game. The answer is yes! This is only applicable if you are in a male-female marriage. If not, there is an option to adopt.
How Does Pregnancy Work
Like in real life, only female players can become pregnant. To do so, you must have a minimum of 10 out of 12 hearts with your spouse, be married for at least 7 days, and have a fully upgraded home with a nursery including a crib for the baby.
Getting pregnant may take some time, as it depends on the spouse to initiate the process. Every night when you go to bed, there is a 5% chance that your spouse will ask if you want to have children.
You can only have two children with the same spouse, with the gender of the first being randomly determined and the second being the opposite gender.
Pregnancy Dialogue
If you are one of the lucky players who get the chance to become pregnant, your spouse will ask if you want to have a child. You can then choose to respond with ‘Yes’ or ‘Not Yet’, determining whether or not you will become pregnant.
Multiplayer Pregnancy
One player is randomly chosen to propose having a child and if both players accept, the child will be born or delivered after 14 days. The steps for multiplayer pregnancy are the same as for NPC pregnancy. You must have a fully upgraded nursery (by upgrading your home), be married for 7 days, and each night there is a 5% chance for your spouse to ask about having a child.
Divorce and Pregnancy
If you divorce your spouse but had already agreed to have a child, the baby will disappear. However, if you wait until the night the baby is born to divorce, you can keep the child. After divorce, you can remarry and have children with a different spouse.
Increasing the Chances of Pregnancy
While the chances of getting pregnant may be low, you can increase them. Going to bed before your spouse is said to raise the chances slightly, especially if you go to bed before 22:00. Keeping your spouse happy by giving them gifts every day can also increase the chances.
Pregnancy Duration
In Stardew Valley, time flows differently so pregnancy does not last 9 months. It takes only 14 days for the baby to be born or delivered, whether through pregnancy or adoption.
Pregnancy and Birth Events
Giving birth in Stardew Valley is much easier than in real life! The player can even give birth while sleeping without noticing. No hospital, midwife, breastfeeding, or recovery is necessary. The day after giving birth, you can return to your usual farm tasks and your spouse will take care of the baby.
Baby to Toddler Stages
In Stardew Valley, the growth of your child is effortless as it happens magically on its own. Your child can grow up to the toddler stage only. The following stages of growth occur:
- Your child will start off by appearing in the crib and sleeping for two weeks.
- After two weeks, the child will stand up in the crib and become playable by raising their affection levels through interaction.
- The child will leave the crib after another two weeks, but still be interactive through petting. The child will start crawling around the house for 28 days, and this may also reopen the option to have a second child with your spouse.
It is important to note that a child in Stardew Valley cannot grow past the toddler stage, taking a total of 8 weeks from birth to reach the toddler stage.
Determining Pregnancy in Stardew Valley
There are no physical signs of pregnancy in the game, neither for the player character nor their spouse.
For female players, your spouse will inform you of the pregnancy, while for male players, your female partner will announce the pregnancy after expressing a desire for a child.
Pregnancy has no impact on the routine or abilities of the mother, and the child will simply arrive after two weeks of pregnancy.
Visual Aspects of Pregnancy in Stardew Valley
The pregnancy is only mentioned, but there are no physical or visual changes to the female character.
Animal Pregnancy in the Barn (Cow, Sheep, Goat, Pig)
In Stardew Valley, all barn animals, such as cows, sheep, goats, and pigs, are asexual. This means that you do not necessarily need two animals of the same species to have a baby animal. However, you must have an upgraded Big Barn, which costs 12000g, and have sufficient room for another animal to make pregnancy possible. It is not necessary to have a Deluxe Barn to allow animal pregnancy.
Allowing Pregnancy for Barn Animals
All that is required for the pregnancy of barn animals is to allow the option through interaction with the animal. This option becomes available when petting the animal for a second time in a day and appears as a purple gem icon.
There is a small chance that the animal will become pregnant, with no visible signs of pregnancy. You will receive a message upon waking up indicating the birth of a baby animal. It is important to note that allowing the pregnancy option does not guarantee that the animal will become pregnant.
Enabling Pregnancy for Barn Animals
Enabling the pregnancy option for barn animals is as simple as clicking the pregnancy icon once. The cross (X) on the allow pregnancy icon will confirm that the option is enabled.
Increasing Chances of Barn Animal Pregnancy
Just like human pregnancy, the chances of barn animals becoming pregnant are small. Each animal (adult mammal with room for another animal in the barn) has a 0.275% chance of becoming pregnant every night. The odds of having a baby increase with every additional adult of the same type. It is also beneficial to have all animals happy with full affection levels and sufficient room in the barn for the best chances of pregnancy.
Animal Pregnancy Allowed in Switch Version of Stardew Valley
In Stardew Valley, animal pregnancy is enabled by default when playing on a Switch console. The option to prevent pregnancy is available by clicking on the animal and seeing a cross through the utters.
Coop Animals and Ostrich Pregnancy
Coop Animals refer to chickens, ducks, rabbits, and dinosaurs. These animals do not go through a pregnancy process, however, all of them lay eggs that can be incubated.
The Coop Incubator
The coop incubator, which is located in the top left corner of the Big or Deluxe coop, is shaped like a tiny nest. To use it, simply place the egg inside. It is important to check the incubator daily to ensure that the hatching process is progressing. Additionally, make sure there is enough space in the coop for the new animal before placing the egg in the incubator.
Chickens and Ducks
Chickens and ducks are the most common coop animals. They lay eggs that can be incubated and then sold for profit. Once the adult chicken or duck lays an egg, it takes approximately 5 days for the egg to hatch. However, the productivity depends on animals’ level of happiness and stress.
Dinosaurs
Dinosaur eggs cannot be purchased, but must be found in the game. Once found, the egg must be placed in the incubator for approximately 12 days before hatching. After hatching, the dinosaur can lay more eggs, resulting in a larger dinosaur population.
Rabbits
Unlike other livestock, rabbits cannot reproduce. They can be either male or female.
Ostriches
Ostriches cannot be purchased as adult animals, but must be obtained by finding and incubating an ostrich egg. These eggs can be found after completing the volcano dungeon, but the search can take up to a month. Once an ostrich is obtained, it will lay one egg per in-game week.
The Ostrich Incubator
The ostrich egg must be placed in the ostrich incubator located in the barn. It takes approximately 10 days for the egg to hatch. It is important to note that the incubator for ostriches is separate from the incubator for coop animals, so it is important to ensure there is enough space in the barn before incubating the egg.
Stardew Valley Pregnancy Mod
A mod is a customization tool for the game that can enhance gameplay by adding new functions and dialogue. There are many pregnancy mods available for Stardew Valley, as the default pregnancy options may not be satisfactory for some players. The best places to find these mods are: NexusMods and ModDrop.
Are Stardew Valley Mods Safe?
Modifying games is generally considered safe, as long as the proper precautions are taken. It is recommended to back up saved game files before installing any mods. Most mods require SMAPI, but some only require copying and pasting files into the main Stardew Valley folder. Instructions for installation can typically be found on the mod’s page.
