You could win $10000 for designing an Android wallpaper

| Updated:

Chinese smartphone brand Realme may not be well known in the west, but learning about the brand could earn you $10000. The company has announced a wallpaper contest for its new phones, the Realme 6 and Realme 6 Pro and will give the winner a cash prize of $10000 and the company’s latest smartphones. Also on offer is an internship at Realme.

The internship offer is also available for “9 outstanding winners” who will also get one of the company’s phones and a certificate. To be clear, the internship lasts for three months only, though that probably makes it perfect for teenagers and youngsters. Realme will also be giving out its true wireless earbuds and power banks to some winners.

For the uninitiated, Realme is owned by Chinese giant BBK Electronics, which also owns the brands Oppo, Vivo, iQoo and OnePlus. While Oppo, Vivo and Realme are amongst the top 5 brands in India, the second largest smartphone market in the world, OnePlus leads the premium segment in that country.

Realme had recently announced its own user interface (UI) for its smartphones. The company had been using Oppo’s UI till now, so it evidently wants to grow the customisation options for its devices. Announcing a contest like this may well be cheaper for the company than actually hiring a design firm.

If you’re wondering whether the contest is a scam, it’s worth noting that BBK Electronics is amongst the richest and biggest companies in the smartphone space right now. Further, Realme has a very real following in India and China and the company has been itching to make a mark in the west, like many other smartphone makers.

Its latest phones, the Realme 6 and Realme 6 Pro are priced at under $250 and have 90Hz displays along with multiple cameras on the back, one of which has a 64MP sensor. The phones also have the company’s own fast charging technology and run on the MediaTek Helio G90T chipset, which is designed for gaming enthusiasts.
